Whale

The whale also appears in Inuit myths about the beginning of the world. One of the chief characters in their creation myths is Big Raven, a deity in human form. One day, Big Raven came upon a stranded whale and asked the Great Spirit to help him get the creature back out to sea. The Great Spirit told him of a place in the forest where moonlight fell a special way. There he would find mushrooms that, if eaten, would give him the strength to drag the whale into the water unassisted. Big Raven did as he was told, rescued the whale, and thereby safegarded the order of the world.

Plans of Puppetry

We are a group of illustrators, puppeteers, musicians, circus performers, writers, and side-show performers. For our upcoming production, we will be cycling variety shows down the Pacific Coast of the US from Oakland to Los Angeles, CA, and from there, either East into Arizona or South into Mexico and beyond! We are putting together an all-ages sci-fi adventure tale that hints at the possibilities and necessity of a new culture of interdependency, sustainability, subsistence, and handmade, human-powered infrastructure and media created by and for each other. We will be performing at small, local community venues, community bike shops, friends' houses, farmers' markets, street corners, in parks, and under bridges. Admission is free (donations only) and open to all audiences! Before the tour begins, we will be uniting puppet forces in Oakland, CA for a collaboration period of several weeks. After our kick-off show in Oakland, we will start  biking due south, stopping in San Francisco, Ano Nuevo State Reserve, Santa Cruz, Big Sur, Santa Maria, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and San Diego, CA for booked shows, and we'll be street-performing unbooked shows in other towns along the way.

Here are a few stills of some of the puppets I have made so far:

The two main characters are a young inventor/alchemist, and her sidekick, a rescued bioengineering experiment gone wrong. After surviving a fiery chaotic crash of industrialization and capitalism, they resurface years later and reinvent the bicycle!

This is a work-in-progress so stay tuned for updates!
